PADI Instructor
Overview
The topics to be covered in an IDC are set by PADI
standards, but we aim to present the course in a relaxed,
enjoyable way over a period of 10 -13 days of classroom, pool
and open water work. Some IDC courses are completed in as
little as 7 days, but we prefer not to hurry and to give everyone
plenty of time for practice in any area in which he/she may
need 'fine-tuning'.
The topics to be covered are as follows:
- Course Orientation
- Dive Industry Overview
- General Standards and Procedures
- The PADI System of Diver Education

Peak Performance Buoyancy, Rescue, Advanced Open Water and
everybody's favourite, the Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascent.
Why choose our IDC Program?
Since every IDC is a PADI course, they all have the same basic
outlines and you must meet the performance requirements. Therefore
it is the little differences that make your IDC an enjoyable
learning experience and not just a long, dull class. At Diving.
Hotel Thailand.com Dive Center Team, we offer a relaxed schedule
and the very best modern facilities to enable you to get the
most from your course.
Benefits of choosing include:
- Air-conditioned multimedia classroom
- training pool
- Relaxed 10 -13 day program
- Maximum of 8 candidates (with Course Director and 2 Staff
Instructors)
- Free 3 day IDC prep course (see below)
- Breakfast and lunch included every day
- Post IE job opportunities
Our staff will work day and night to help you and we are
always happy to work extra hours in the class to fine-tune
your skills.
It may have been some time since your Divemaster or Assistant
Instructor course and we fully understand if your knowledge
may have become a little rusty. By taking advantage of our
free 3-day prep course, you can refresh your skills and diving
knowledge; no need to worry about these things during your
IDC. The course includes at least one knowledge review exam
(physics, physiology, skills & environment, RDP, and equipment),
along with any required workshops and skills practice in the
pool. As an instructor, you need to perform your skills as
a demonstration and we can give you hints on how to achieve
this level.
It is recommended that you use the 'PADI Diving Knowledge
Workbook and Encyclopaedia of Recreational Diving' to assist
you and begin reading appropriate sections of the 'Instructor
Candidate Workbook'. This book is used every day during the
IDC and we suggest that you complete some of the knowledge
reviews prior to starting the IDC.
We want you to start your IDC with confidence and without
worries about how to hover or the meaning of 'DIN valve'...By
taking advantage of this course, you can concentrate on learning
new ideas.

Medic First Aid Instructor Course
After your IDC, our program allows an extra day for you to
take the MFA Instructor Course, giving your mind a little
rest prior to the IE and giving you additional valuable qualification.
Without being able to teach MFA, you run the risk of losing
students, as you will have to send them elsewhere for medical
training as required for PADI Rescue Diver certification.
The PADI MFA Course can be taught to anybody - as it is not
a diving course, you will have many potential students!
In one day of heart-pumping action you refresh your own skills
and learn the best way to present MFA to students. Emphasis
is on creating a fun, relaxed atmosphere for learning.
Our Facilities
We offer top-class facilities and a perfect environment in
which to study and relax to our IDC candidates. Our IDC classroom
is air-conditioned and equipped with a wide range of audio/visual
aids.
We want you to relax during your IDC and concentrate on preparing
for your IE. Let us look after your needs and you can focus
on learning. With our course directors, your IDC will be an
enjoyable and relaxingexperience and you can walk into your
IE fully confident of success.
The Instructor Examination
After you successfully complete the IDC, you will be ready for
the big IE.
Here in Thailand, the Instructor Exam is more relaxed than
in other places, lasting two days, giving you plenty of time
to prepare for your presentations. The exam takes place in
a luxury Resort, using its spacious pools for confined water
work and its air-conditioned conference rooms for written
exams and academic presentations. For open water work, you
may dive directly from Beach, if the weather allows, or take
a local dive boat to a nearby island where the water will
be more sheltered.
Life after the IE
If you consult the PADI Continuing Education Flowchart, you
will see that becoming a PADI Instructor is not the final step
in your diving education. To enhance your career opportunities
and expand your own diving knowledge, you should also consider
taking the next step up the PADI ladder. Completing the MFA
Instructor Course is one possibility; another one is to aim
for the Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating. True, as a newly
hatched Instructor you cannot apply immediately, but our Dive
Team can start you on your way with a wide variety of Specialty
Instructor Courses. (To apply for the MSDT rating you need 5
specialty instructor ratings and 25 certifications).
Specialty Instructor courses on offer include Nitrox, Rebreather,
Deep, Navigation, Wreck and Night and will be of interest
to all instructors, not only those fresh from the IE. Nitrox
and Rebreather in particular are becoming increasingly popular.
In conjunction with an IDC, we also offer the PADI IDC Staff
Instructor Course. As a Staff Instructor you will be able
to teach and certify PADI Assistant Instructors - therefore
this course is another valuable step in the PADI ladder. You
will also be able to assist with IDC’s, including academic
and confined/open water evaluations. There are 2 days of training
and evaluations of your diving knowledge, water skills, and
academic presentations. Following that you will audit a complete
IDC by attending all curriculum presentation sessions. This
is an extremely valuable course for instructors who wish to
further their dive education. You will see instructor training
in a new light and improve your own skills in the process.
